The materials used include Wrights of Lymm’s 23.5 ct. Standard gold leaf, 23.ct. Red gold leaf and 18.ct. Green gold leaf, everything is laid by hand on 3hr. or 12hr. gold size.

The elephant figurines are a part of a new range featuring endangered animals, for every item showed 10 per cent of the price will be donated to an endangered animal charity.

King Tutankhamun gilded outer coffin has been removed from the king’s tomb for the first time since it was discovered in 1922 to undergo an eight month restoration project , Restoration work has begun on the 3,300-year-old coffin , this will be the first time the coffin will have left the tomb in 97 years .

The coffin was made with gilded wood which will now be restored before going on display in the Grand Egyptian Museum for the first time.

The striking Kano School Old and Young Bamboo, another pair of six-panel screens, from around 1640 – 1650, features ground-breaking design elements of the early 17th century Kano School: rather than show nature in full, the artist crops the tops and bottoms of some of the trees to create a tensile and dynamic composition. An overlay of gold leaf at the top and a rich, deep blue of a pond add to the composition’s striking qualities. Measuring 25 feet across in total, the oversized screens were likely commissioned for a castle or temple.  

 

Using a goose feather quill, a solitary scribe spent four years writing the words in Latin on the skins of 250 calves, before six artists began sumptuous illuminations using gold leaf and lapis lazuli from Afghanistan. Although it was never quite finished, the Winchester Bible finally weighed in at the medieval equivalent of 32kg.

 

Kent based icon painter Peter Murphy travelled to Calgary in Canada in the first week of August to teach a group from SAGA , the Sacred Arts Guild of Alberta, traditional Byzantine Icon painting techniques. The course was held at St Stephens Ukrainian Church and was a huge success, thanks largely, according to Peter, to the excellent quality loose and transfer 23.5 carat Wright’s of Lymm gold used for backgrounds, halos and gilded decoration on the figures.
